“My name is Jessica, I am 36 y and I am from South Sudan. Some people say it´s the poorest country on Earth, but I felt rich before. My husband paid 30 cows to marry me. It´s a very high price, because I am tall. I was very proud of my value. My country is fighting a civil war that lasts forever. Many young boys are dying in this crazy war. Many children don´t have proteins to eat, we can see it because their hair gets orange. I never had electricity or running water, I never had any shoes and I almost never use money… but I was a rich woman. The love of my husband filled my heart and my belly with 7 children. I was a rich woman, but now I have nothing. I started coughing and having fever, and doctors say I have pulmonary tuberculosis. I want to go home for my husband and my children, but doctors say that I can pass the disease to my family if I go, so I have to stay in the hospital that is 4 days away from my village. We have no phones and I don´t talk to my family since I started the treatment 1 month ago. I am afraid my husband will get another woman. He can if he wants, because he has many cows. War is destroying South Sudan and killing many innocent people. But no war is worst than a broken heart. I am counting the days to finish the treatment, so I can go back to my husband and be a rich woman again.”
