“My name is Aisha, I am 9y and I am from Iraq. I am going to tell you my story. There is a lot of sadness in it, but its a happy story 😉 . My first memories were like a pink fairytale and then everything became black. I lived in the historical center of Mosul, one of the oldest cities in the world, but sadly it was taken by terror. A group of men dressed in black transformed our lives in a permanent nightmare. We tried to wake up from it, but we couldn’t. It was a living hell. They call it the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. Nobody will ever be capable of describing the amount of pain that they caused to my country, and my people… One day they took my mother, and I never saw her again. My father says she is resting in Paradise, and that one day we will meet her there. My father became the center of my world. He is my father, my mother, my friend, my teacher, my sun and my moon. He calls me little queen of Babylon J . One day our house was bombed during the war, and the walls fell over my father. He was stuck. His legs were under the rumble and I saw everything happen. For 3 days I gave him some water while he was stuck under the bricks. We had no food and I was afraid to get out because it was very dangerous, there were bombs falling everywhere. First I was crying and my father comforted me with kind words and happy stories. And on the second day, when my father started to cry, I didn’t know what to do, so after a while I started to sing. I sang very beautiful songs and my father got his smile back, when he was afraid to die. In that moment I realized that we all can change our state of mind no matter what. Letting sadness go away and choosing to be happy is possible NO MATTER WHAT happens to you… I was singing and sleeping next to my father for more than 24 hours and then the army came to save us, and he is being treated at this hospital by very nice people. Some of the other patients sometimes are sad and crying because they lost one leg, or someone from their families died… and so I sing to them, and then they became happy and smile. A lot of people lost hope in Mosul, because we suffered a lot, but I am going to sing to them and give them hope. Changing to a happier course of life is our choice, and sometimes all it takes is a song!”
