“Sometimes I still hear their voices… I used to wake up every morning believing that I was educating the future of South Sudan. This school was full of kids, full of life, full of hope. Everything starts here. Everything starts by reading and writing, and by teaching them all the different subjects to empower children to fight for a better future. The potential to grow and to improve as a society, and as a country, is all there in their heads and in their hearts. I was there just to show them the way.
I used to go home every night extremely tired, but proud of my mission as a teacher in one of the poorest countries in the world. But now, the war broke all our dreams. Broke the future of South Sudan. Instead of future doctors, engineers, lawyers, or architects, they are dodging bullets in the middle of the bushes, and many will die. This is just one more sad story of my country. More than 70% (2 million) of the children don´t go to school in South Sudan. And more than 30 million children don´t go to School in Africa… Some don´t have teachers, some don´t have schools, and others have school and teacher but are abandoned due to the wars… Nothing comes without education. We are all from the same family, and we are destroying the hope of our future… I use to have so many students, and now an empty school… Sometimes I still here their voices!”
